Tips & advice for headaches
- Do a relaxation exercise — to relax the body and activate the “calm and worry system”, maybe the headache relieves a little, or you may get some space in yourself to at least be able to handle the pain.
- Let your eyes rest — put an eye pillow over your forehead/eyes, maybe you want to cool it down a bit first, to turn off the light, and let the weight help you relax.
- Do a visualization exercise — to learn how to deal with the headache, accept rather than let the pain overwhelm you, a visualization exercise or meditation can be helpful.
- Soften the jaws — headaches often come from tense jaws — gape, move the jaw sideways and forward repeatedly massage.
- Soften the neck — even stiff neck muscles are a common cause of headaches, which are also often associated with tense jaws. Stretch and do different exercises for the neck to relax a bit.
- Go for massage and/or acupuncture — massage helps you relax and acupuncture can be very helpful for headaches. You can also do different types of self-massage to relax.
- Check out the vision — if you squint a lot, the headache will soon come as a letter in the mail.
- Preventive exercises — for recurring headaches, preventive exercises are very important. For example, it can be good to regularly soften the area around the neck and thoracic spine, which when they are tense over a long period of time can contribute to headaches.
